Engineering Africa’s Packaging Revolution with AFROPACK Group

Manufacturing in Nigeria
Nigeria stands at the heart of Africa’s manufacturing future. With over 200 million people and one of the fastest-growing consumer markets in the world, demand for reliable, efficient, and sustainable industrial solutions has never been greater. Yet, the sector continues to face challenges: energy shortages, foreign exchange constraints, and dependence on imported equipment. Nigeria’s manufacturing contributed just 8.9% to GDP in 2023, below its potential and well under the global average of 12%.
Against this backdrop, AFROPACK Group is redefining packaging solutions by blending European engineering excellence with African ingenuity, offering reliable systems built for Nigeria’s unique realities.
Born in Italy, Built in Africa.
Since 2005, AFROPACK has grown into a Pan-African packaging and processing leader, working side by side with industries to deliver solutions that last. From food and beverage to pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, agro-processing, and chemicals, our systems are designed to overcome challenges such as unreliable machinery, long downtimes from spare part shortages, and supplier delays.
Every solution, though manufactured in Italy, is engineered for Nigerian conditions:
- Voltage stabilization for reliable performance in an unstable grid.
- Enhanced cooling and filtration to operate in high-heat, dusty environments.
- User-friendly maintenance design that matches diverse technical capacities.
With service hubs across Africa—including Lagos, Douala, Dakar, Kampala, and Tunis—AFROPACK ensures local support, rapid spare parts availability, and trained engineers who understand the Nigerian market first-hand.
Our portfolio represents the best of Italian engineering: CLEVERTECH GROUP, FRAUGROUP, LA PARMIGIANA, IMF COFFEE ROASTERS, TECHNIPES, LAFERPACK, and MAKRO LABELLING.
Driving Nigeria’s Industrial Transformation
Leading this mission is Managing Director, Daniel Kirui Njoroge, who combines years of industrial engineering expertise with a passion for African-led growth. Under his guidance, AFROPACK has deployed advanced systems across the continent, such as labeling lines capable of 45,000 bottles per hour, while also ensuring small and medium enterprises (SMEs) can access appropriately scaled technologies.
For Nigeria, AFROPACK is not just an importer—it is a capacity builder. From coffee-roasting lines in Lagos to water bottling in Kano and dairy packaging in Port Harcourt, our footprint reflects a simple vision: build sustainable capacity locally, system by system.
A standout example is AFROPACK’s packaging plant in Bujumbura, Burundi—fully equipped with Italian machinery and run as both a live production hub and a training center. Nigeria is next: we are working with partners to replicate this model, creating regional hubs that deliver both technology and skills.
Building Sustainability into Every System
Sustainability is not an afterthought at AFROPACK—it is engineered into everything we do. In Nigeria, where packaging waste and energy use are pressing concerns, AFROPACK offers practical, sustainable innovations: recyclable materials, waste-reduction systems, and energy-optimized machines.
Each AFROPACK project contributes directly to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):
- SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation & Infrastructure): strengthening Nigeria’s industrial base.
- SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption & Production): designing eco-efficient packaging lines.
- SDG 13 (Climate Action): reducing emissions and energy demand via automation and diagnostics.
- SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals): connecting Nigerian industries with global engineering expertise.
Nigeria’s Packaging Market – Opportunities Ahead
Nigeria anchors West Africa’s packaging market, with strong growth driven by its FMCG, pharmaceuticals, and agro-processing sectors. Analysts forecast Africa’s packaging market to grow from USD 45 billion in 2025 to USD 54 billion by 2030, with Nigeria as one of the top drivers.
AFROPACK is already investing to meet this demand by:
- Expanding its Lagos service hub with more trained engineers.
- Introducing smart automation solutions tailored for Nigeria’s high-volume FMCG sector.
- Partnering with financial institutions—including Italian banks, AfDB, and local Nigerian players—to provide flexible financing models for manufacturers.
- Scaling its sustainable packaging division to reduce reliance on imported plastics.
A Future-Forward Partner for Nigerian Industry
Scaling in Nigeria is not without challenges: complex customs processes, logistics bottlenecks, and skilled manpower shortages. AFROPACK addresses these proactively with local talent training, partnerships with Nigerian logistics providers, and strong after-sales support.
In 2025, AFROPACK participated in ProPak East Africa (Nairobi, May 20–22) and will be present at ProPak West Africa in Lagos (September 9–11), engaging Nigerian manufacturers, global partners, and decision-makers to shape the country’s packaging future.
With Daniel Kirui’s leadership and AFROPACK’s growing Nigerian footprint, the company is more than a supplier—it is a partner in building a resilient, efficient, and sustainable Nigerian manufacturing ecosystem.
